Nottingham has had a Theatre Royal since the 1760s. In 1865, the present theatre opened, which the City Council spent £5 million refurbishing in 1977.

This is Nottingham's main theatre and concert hall. The Royal Concert Hall was connected to the Theatre Royal in 1982.

Nottingham’s Playhouse is known for its innovative new work and for the quality of its productions. It also promotes theatre of great artistic merit from around the world.
