Anubis I Case Study: Guidance Monitoring

Having been awarded £10,000 to invest in technology, all the winning companies took an innovative idea and weaved it into their businesses. Here is a summary of their successes thanks to the ANUBIS funding.

Guidance developed a mobile system for monitoring tagged offenders with the money from ANUBIS.  The system is linked to the internet for live updating which has been created in parallel with new hardware and software for PDAs.  Thanks to the injection of ANUBIS funding, the project was completed early and the new equipment is scheduled for customer field trials in the UK in early 2007.

The spin off from the ANUBIS project has meant the company has started to use PDAs for other applications both as a development tool and as a diagnostic tool for customer installations for its automated vehicle laser navigation systems.

During this time, the company has seen its annual sales grow from £3.6 million to £4.6 million in the financial year to 2005/06 and it has recruited an extra eight staff during this time.

Its entrepreneurial success doesn’t stop there.  Another division within the company won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2006 and the Duke of York visited Guidance in recognition of its technical and export business development successes.

Robert Ashby, group finance director at Guidance, said, “The ANUBIS project enabled us to improve our PDA system.  The internet connectivity and live update is of particular value to customers.  This has enabled us to improve our product range and contributed to opening new export business opportunities for 2007 that we would not have had otherwise.”
