Each set of hexagonal soft jaws consists of three master jaws and three hexagons. The master jaws
are machined with either a scrolled or serrated base to lock precisely within the chuck. They can be
inserted and positioned within a few minutes. Once they are fitted correctly, they automatically
compensate for any lathe rotational eccentricity. The three hexagons which are designed to precisely
interlock with the master jaws, progressively tighten into the master jaws as centrifugal forces
increase, ensuring greater machining accuracy and safety.
The hexagons are initially machined in position on the lathe and offer a total of six different working
surfaces, each with three material gripping areas ensuring maximum wraparound. This increased wraparound
allows complete rigidity, accuracy and a smoother cut at higher speeds.
Advantages
The hexagon jaws are locked onto the master jaws by a patented dovetail in the shape of a V which makes the hexagons self-centering and ensuring repeatability after indexing.
Hexagons are much wider than conventional soft jaws and therefore offer vastly increased wraparound. Particularly beneficial for delicate shapes and materials.
Conventional soft jaws have to be pointed. Hexagons already have six sets of points, offering immediate and secure hold-down.
The locking system permits the jaws to be indexed, presenting at least six different work holding positions on each set of jaws.
Conventional jaws have to be replaced or re bored every time the work changes. Hexagons only have to be indexed.
Both hexagons and master jaws are manufactured to high precision on C.N.C machines. They are ground finished to achieve a greater accuracy than with conventional soft jaws.
