Wireless Broadband in Nottingham
EMNET managed a project to connect Nottingham's creative hub to a high bandwidth wireless network. WiCity was a collaboration with Connected Nottingham - the City's overarching campaign to support past, present and future ICT investment in Greater Nottingham.
The Lace Market, an area was once dominated by the more traditional crafts of lace making and textile production. The project provided support to enable it to become the City's most Internet friendly business district. WiCity provided the area with a wireless broadband network capable of SDSL and lease line speeds. The wireless network provided premium business internet access in an area in which DSL network access was overloaded.
The project focused on providing connections for multi tennant buildings and high power users such as the creative industries.
Curve
Curve provided e-business support to 120 companies located in Objective Two areas of the East Midlands. Central to the project was the availability of free website management software providing companies with content managed websites, online marketing tools and e-commerce capabilities.
Broadband Awareness
This project provided direct support to 300 companies with the use of Broadband connections to the Internet. The companies were supported by one to one consultations and through a programme of seminars and workshops aimed at building awareness.
Innovative Actions
EMNET was instrumental in acquiring a £4 million grant fund for the region to spend on the development of innovative approaches to Economic Development and ICT. EMNET managed the establishment and first stages of delivery of the programme. EMNET also managed the delivery of a research focused element of the project aimed at increasing the capacity of local and regional Economic Development agencies.
East Midlands ICT Awards
The ICT awards were developed to provide a heightened awareness of e-business and how it was being used within the region. The awards were open to all businesses across the region and considered the quality of web marketing, web site design and business processes. The awards were presented at a black tie dinner and networking event with 400 attendees from across the region.
East Midlands ICT Awareness
The Awareness Campaign consisted of development of a relationship with regional newspapers and magazines to promote awareness of the opportunities presented by electronic business. The press activity was supported by a PR campaign involving TV and radio articles and phone ins. In addition to the press and media campaign a small conference was held in each of the counties of the region for 100 plus companies.
Ice House
This project provided support for companies with the use of e-business including Internet connections, demonstrator facilities and business workshops and seminars.
Electronic Export
This project assisted businesses to use the Internet to support export activities and included provision of direct support to companies, business advice, production of a regional export portal and development of web-based export information to promote products and services.
Creative Media Support Road
This project provided support and training for businesses wishing to present and promote themselves over the Internet. The project provided training facilities and direct assistance to businesses.
Highlander
This project encouraged companies to conduct business online. This included the production of electronic commerce and e-business web sites, seminars, workshops and consultancy.
SPN
This project provided free dial up connections to the Internet and technical support for small businesses to encourage them to trade online.
Internet Dissemination
The project assisted small businesses assess the potential of the Internet by providing advice and guidance on how business can be conducted online, free introductory web pages and a local directory of web trading sites.
